The Red Cap: The Bloody Baron

First off, thanks for stopping by and let's get to the good stuff - The Scottish Fae!

Here's my latest installment of a Scottish Fae which is featured in my new book:
Guardian of the Moon Pendant: The Red Cap.

I was lucky enough to have Andy Paciorek from Strange Lands website allow me to use his version of a Red Cap. Here is a brief description of a Red Cap.

Red Cap:

A Red Cap is a murderous faery found in Scottish folklore. He is an old hunch-backed man, carrying an iron-pike, donning iron-clad boots, who is fast as lightning. He dwells in castles and towers, killing travelers regularly to keep his red cap drenched in blood, for if his cap dries out, he will turn to stone.

I think Andy nailed it with his frightening and sinister version of the Red Cap.

Here is an EXCERPT from the Guardian of the Moon Pendant with the Bloody Baron the Red Cap!!!

The Bloody Baron zipped down the stairs, harnessing a desire to quench his thirst, his bony finger skimmed through my luscious red fluid, his fingertip drenched in my juice as he slid it into his grimy mouth, lighting up his eyes, painting a twisted grin across his sullen face. “So sweet,” he murmured, “sweeter than sweet…”

That's all for today!

The Nuckelavee: The Devil of the Sea

Now we're getting into some really creepy Fae, The Nuckelavee.
I know a lot of you don't know about this Fae.
It is indeed very rare, but it is known in Scotland's Orkney Islands.

I found a really awesome drawing on Deviantart by Verdego.
And the artist allowed me to use their drawing of the Nuckelavee on my Blog. *Yeah*
Kudos and many thanks to Verdego!
http://verdego.deviantart.com/art/Nuckelavee-110263255

What an awesome and seriously spine tingling Fae the Nuckelavee is!!!
I mean seriously - would you want to meet this thing in real life?

Here is a brief description of the fiersome Nuckelavee:

Nuckelavee:
[knog-gul-vee] Nuckelavee is a creature from Scotland’s Orkney Island folklore that is known as the devil of the sea. A vile hybrid of half-man and half-horse, its skinless body is covered in raw living flesh. Its horse’s head has only one eye. Centered on its back is a thin rider with no legs, but has long ape-like arms.

I also wanted to give you an EXCERPT from Guardian of the Moon Pendant with the Nuckelavee:

There it was before me, its stature ten times larger than any mortal, a vile hybrid of half-man and half-horse, a hideous skinless creature, its body covered in raw living flesh, just muscles tethered together with great white sinews, its blood black as tar pulsing through its yellow veins, a single fiery eye centered above its horse’s head, while two eyes blazed on its monstrous human head, it lolled down to its shoulders, too heavy for its frail neck, rolling side to side, its elongated arms hung low, scrapping its knuckles along the ground, its sharp claws curling inward.

I swallowed hard. My eyes stared into its red-hot eye, sending a shiver through all the bones in my body, its venomous breath blowing heat onto my cool skin, while little beads of sweat snaked down my face. I kept calm and stayed in control, showing it I knew its weakness.

Until next time!

The Baobhan Sith

I wanted to share with you a drawing of the Baobhan Sith, the vampiric faery, drawn by Andrew DeFelice. This picture is when she is in her 'beautiful' form, not in her raging blood-sucking form.

Baobhan Sith:

[baa'-van shee] A vampiric faery from Scottish folklore. She uses her seductive voice to hypnotize men into her lair, using her razor-sharp fingernails to suck out her victim’s blood. But, if she injects her prey with her toxic venom, they turn into a Màrmann.

THE FAE

Today I'm going to talk about THE FAE - in particular CELTIC or SCOTTISH FAE.

You know, the little folk, the wee ones, the Tuatha De Dannan, the Sidhe, all living in the Otherworld or in Tír na nÓg the land of youth - where no mortal man ever grows old!

Who or What are these magical creatures?
There are many theories... some even believe they are aliens!
Some believe they are from an ancient civilization.

Personally, I believe that THE FAE are fallen angels, stuck between Heaven and Hell. Trapped in a limbo, hidden away from human eyes, living in their own magical world.
Torn between turning into an angel or a demon.
To me that sounds more interesting than tossing them off as aliens.

One of the things that I do with my writing is to include these rare and mythological creatures that so many writers don't use.

That's why you won't see your typical paranormal creatures in my stories, except for maybe a ghost! (boo!) Things like vampires, werewolves, witches, fallen angels, demons, zombies, trolls, and even ghosts are all over the place in our lovely Paranormal Romance World.

Now, don't get me wrong!
These are wonderful, fun exciting horror creatures that WE ALL LOVE!!
I even have Scottish zombie warriors called Màrmann and a ghost in Guardian of the Moon Pendant.

But, what my plan is - is to include all these great interesting, fascinating CELTIC /SCOTTISH FAE into my books and I'd like ALL of you to come along for the ride!

I was thinking that every week or two - depending on schedule.
I'll introduce to you one of the SCOTTISH FAE that I am using in the Guardian of the Moon Pendant.

Either myself or my friend Andrew DeFelice will draw a picture and I'll give a definition of what it is! Hopefully more of the pictures will be from Andrew because - seriously, I haven't drawn a thing since college!

So that's what I aim to do! Come back an visit me and we'll explore all the different SCOTTISH FAE I use in my book: Guardian of the Moon Pendant

It's OFFICIAL!!!

Guardian of the Moon Pendant is now available on Amazon.com and on BarnesandNoble.com!

Amazon Page
BN.com Page

It seems sort of 'anti-climactic' having worked on this almost every day since January.
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do next?
I guess I should start working on book #2. Which I have already began compiling ideas and scenes.
I just have to finish promoting my book, if you call it that?
Anyway, there's a thunderstorm brewing outside. (I just love thunderstorms!)
I think I'm going to just chillax and enjoy it!

All the best!
And good reading to you all!

In the beginning...

So, welcome to my first blog!

Just pour yourself a nice cup of tea (or coffee->don't want to leave out the java drinkers!) and nestle down in front of your PC/iPad/or Smart Phone and let's begin!

Honestly, *scratchingmyhead* I'm wondering how much blogging I'm going to be doing. Considering, I've never done it before.I feel like I'm just writing a note to myself and no one else will read it.
Hello, McFly? Is there anybody out there?

But, I am very active on Facebook and I'm pretty savvy with my updates there...
So... who knows?

So what's up?
I'm just finishing up the editing for Guardian of the Moon Pendant now. Books always seem to take longer than I always hope they would. Especially, the editing part. Once you're done with your first draft, you're dancing on the ceiling! But, then you soon realize that there's a whole lotta other stuff that needs to be done.
First being, you have to go back and edit again.. and again.. and again.
Then, you get a beta reader... and you wait, and you edit, and you wait.
Then, you get a real editor... and you wait, and wait, and blog.
Then, you get the book back.. and you edit, edit, edit... did I say edit?
Then, you format, edit, and maybe, just maybe you get to publish it!
*sigh*

So, stay tuned... Same bat channel... same bat time...
And don't mind my silliness... I was born that way!

All the best,
Laura
